What's the Skinny on the Skinny?
Skinny Pigs, unlike Baldwins, originated with a cross between a haired pig & a hairless lab strain, that was believed to derive from a spontaneous genetic mutation in a colony of Hartley lab pigs, in Montreal's Institute Armand Frappier in 1978. They come in a variety of colors & patterns & are hairless except for on the muzzle, feet & legs. Unlike Baldwins they are born virtually hairless & grow hair as they develop. The " Hairless Mutation is caused by a different gene than that of a Baldwin & there for they should not be bred together as their breeding would result in Haired Pigs.
